As a student at the College of Staten Island, I have been fortunate to experience the meaningful impact

that the Hillel of Staten Island community has had on my Jewish journey. At Hillel, I have made new friends, created endless memories, and got the opportunity to explore my Jewish identity.

I transferred to the College of Staten Island to study Psychology with aspirations of becoming a clinical psychologist, but my college experience was initially lacking something. When I discovered Hillel, I found exactly what I was missing: A Jewish community on campus that I can call home.

From Shabbat dinners to Jewish learning sessions, challah baking and more, Hillel has welcomed me with open arms and made it easy to explore my Jewish identity freely.

I didn’t always have a Jewish community, in fact, I wasn’t even raised Jewish. I come from a Christian background, but I didn’t feel connected to it. I was surprised to learn about the diversity within Judaism and felt drawn to its rich traditions and teachings. As I embarked on the journey of conversion, Hillel provided me with unwavering support, guiding me through the process with compassion and understanding.

At Hillel of Staten Island, I can proudly celebrate who I am as a Jew, even during this time of growing antisemitism on campus. Recent protests at CSI have targeted the Jewish Staten Island community and made me feel uneasy, but I know our unity will always be stronger than their hate. Last November, I attended the March for Israel in Washington D.C. It was surreal and empowering to be at the march and stand together with thousands of Jewish people who believe in Israel’s right to exist.

When I think about life after graduation, I know I will remain involved with Hillel. This community will always hold a special place in my heart. However, to ensure that future students have access to the same support and opportunities that I have had, we need your support.
