Staten Island JCC and Hillel Partnership
In September, we announced that the JCC had entered into a management agreement with Hillel. This management agreement created a new, first of its kind model of one Hillel that serves both CSI and Wagner, as well as other college-aged students on the Island. Hillel of Staten Island now has access to all of the JCC’s resources, strengthening its impact in the community.
Over the past school year, Hillel has increased the number of students it serves on both campuses. Activities include Challah Bakes, wellness activities, and Shabbatons. During the difficult time post-October 7th, Hillel has hosted programming focused on mental health support, Israel education, and fighting antisemitism.
Additionally, Hillel serves young professionals who are not enrolled in college or who have recently graduated. Recreational activities aimed to bring these individuals together to help strengthen the next generation of Jewish community on Staten Island.
Hillel of Staten Island was made possible through the support of UJA-Federation of New York. Additional partners include Hillel International, the College of Staten Island, and Wagner College.
“Our goal is to create a future community for all Jewish young adults to engage, thrive, and grow. A stronger structure for Hillel supports Jewish life and creates a safer climate on campus. For a growing number of Jewish students, ignorance and hate are becoming more commonplace. Hillel of Staten Island is already working with our local colleges to help fight back against Anti-Semitism and hate of all kinds,” said JCC CEO Orit Lender.
